Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy is determined to show Jerry Jones that he didn’t make a mistake for hiring him as the head coach.
McCarthy’s first season with the Cowboys ended in a nightmare as the team lost star quarterback Dak Prescott for the season in Week 5 and missed out on the playoffs following a 6-10 season.
The Cowboys, who were plagued by injuries throughout the 2020 season, are now fully healthy and McCarthy aims a Super Bowl appearance.
“Now having the opportunity to come here, where I understand perceptions [are] important, I’m still who I am,” McCarthy told ESPN. “Jerry [Jones] didn’t hire me to come down to increase the marketing of his football team. I would probably dress better. I would choose my verbs better. And I’m capable. But yeah, I’m more aware of [the perception]. At the end of the day, it’s about winning. And I know how to win. I have confidence in that.”
