Trevor Lawrence beats out Gardner Minshew for Jaguars’ starting QB job

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer has named rookie Trevor Lawrence as the starting quarterback for Week 1.

Meyer refused to name Lawrence as the starting quarterback at the start of training camp as he claimed it was an open battle between this year’s No. 1 pick and Gardner Minshew.

However, no one expected Minshew to really start in Week 1 against the Houston Texans.

The last quarterback to win his debut after being selected at No. 1 was David Carr, for the Texans in 2002.

Unfortunately for Lawrence, he will be without one of his expected playmakers on offense as first-round pick Travis Etienne suffered a Lisfrance injury and he will likely miss the entire season.
